About the Big Data Corridor

The Big Data Corridor is an innovation programme offering small & medium sized enterprises in the Greater Birmingham & Solihull regions support with using data to develop their products and services.

The grant funded programme offers:
  • Access to regional and sector-focused data (including local authority data sets for environmental monitoring, energy, healthcare and transport systems);
  • 'Insight Workshops', helping companies to better understand data capture and management, use of sensor technologies, and data commercialisation within their sector;
  • An online toolkit, designed to enable remote research, experimentation with data and provide resources for new product development;
  • Expert assistance with the creation of data driven products and services, including tailored longer-term support collaborations with leading technology organisations.
As part of the programme a number of technology demonstrators will be established as well as an 'Internet of Things' network, located between Birmingham city centre and the planned UK Central HS2 interchange. This will provide a test-bed for selected projects and catalyst for commercialisation.
