Gorton Through School Consultation

1. An all‐through school is a school which provides both primary and secondary education.
Big Life Schools are planning to open a new all‐through school in the Gorton area, where there is a recognised shortage of places for local children.
The new school would have a nursery alongside it, offering Gorton families access to support from 2‐16 years old.
The school will be created and designed to meet the needs of the Gorton community.

Would you welcome a new through school in Gorton, based on the above information?

2. Does the idea of your child being able to make the transition from nursery to primary to secondary school in the same location appeal to you? *

3. Would you find it convenient for your children to be at the same school (for example, if you had children of different ages)? *

4. We are keen for parents to be involved in the school whether it be through volunteering, governor roles, sharing their skills with students and accessing training courses.

Would you be more likely to choose a school which offer parents additional opportunities?

5. Project based learning is a teaching method in which children gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. We believe that this kind of active learning allows children to develop skills which cannot be learned from a textbook, such as drive, creativity, empathy, and resilience as well as applying the learning to the real world.
Based on this definition, would you be happy for your child to learn in this way for part of the time?

6. We have built strong relationships with local employers and believe it is really important to work with employers to reduce skills gaps and ensure that we prepare our students for the world of work.
Is it important to you that employers feed into the curriculum and offer work experience opportunities and apprenticeships?

7. Big Life Schools is part of The Big Life group, which provides people with opportunities to change their lives, through health and wellbeing, skills and employment, and children and families services. We are therefore in a strong position to offer and link to a broad range of support.

Would this enhanced offer of support for your child and family be important to you?
