Spotlight on Museums is a comprehensive survey of Wales' museums that was first undertaken in 2006 with follow up surveys in 2011 and 2015.

This year we are undertaking a reduced 'Spotlite' survey to collect key statistical data with the aim of establishing a comprehensive, up-to-date picture of the museum sector in Wales.

How to complete the survey
  • Data provided should be for the 2015 calendar year except for the financial questions which ask for information for the 2015/16 financial (1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016).
  • We know that sometimes providing an exact figure can be hard so if you do not have actual data, please provide your best estimate.
  • If the response to a particular question is 0 then please specify this rather than leaving it blank.
  • You can save and return to the survey at any time by clicking 'Save and Continue Later' at the bottom of any page.
  • We recommend downloading and reading the survey questions and gathering the data required before completing the on-line form. The survey questions are available to download here. The survey should then take less than 15 minutes to complete.
Questions about the survey
  • The survey is being carried on behalf of the Museums, Libraries and Archives division of the Welsh Government and the information provided will be shared with them. Where presented in public museums will not be individually identified by their financial information.
  • If you have any questions about completing the survey you can contact tom.newman@bristol.gov.uk.
Data protection

The information supplied on this survey will be used to help with strategic planning for museums in Wales, help museums benchmark with other museums and assist the Welsh Government to determine policy priorities. All data will be published in a variety of forms. The information supplied may be used to promote the ‘Spotlite on Museums 2016’ project, to promote individual museums, or to promote the museums of Wales generally. If for any reason you do not wish any of the information you have submitted about your museum to be published or shared then please let us know by contacting Tom Newman, tom.newman@bristol.gov.uk.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this form and we look forward to sharing the results with you.
