The Henrietta Barnett School was founded in 1911 to provide educational opportunities of the highest quality to students from all backgrounds, and a century later continues to aspire to academic excellence within a warm, friendly and vibrant school community. The School seeks to care for each individual student, encouraging curiosity, independence and a love of learning, within a supportive, whole school community. The Agreement below is designed to set out the responsibilities of the School and parents, and the expectations that we have of the students.
The aim of the Sixth Form Contract is to ensure that students achieve the best in their chosen courses, take full advantage of extra-curricular opportunities, are fully committed to the school community and ethos and act as positive role models at The Henrietta Barnett School.
This contract is intended to give you a clear understanding of what you can expect from The Henrietta Barnett School Sixth Form and what will be expected from you in return.
The Henrietta Barnett School Sixth Form will:
Academic:
- provide a programme of courses which is delivered by a team of committed teachers.
- provide guidance for independent study.
- set and mark work regularly.
- provide one opportunity each year for parent(s)/guardian(s) to attend a Consultation Evening to discuss progress and future aspirations.
- provide one set of written reports each year and other interim assessments as appropriate.
UCAS and Careers:
- provide guidance through the UCAS application
- provide an opportunity to seek careers advice.
Pastoral and extra-curricular:
- monitor the progress of students, provide guidance and assistance in setting targets for improvement through the Form Tutor.
- give support in developing good study skills, coping with stress and look after the student’s wellbeing.
- provide support for special needs if appropriate.
- provide a friendly, caring, safe and supportive environment.
- enable students to achieve a high standard of behaviour through building positive relationships and developing a sense of responsibility.
- value all students as individual members of the community and ensure they have the opportunity to achieve their full potential as valued members of the School community.
- provide the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities.
Students will be expected to:
Academic:
- aim to study 4 subjects till the end of Year 13
- thoroughly prepare for lessons including bringing the required books and equipment
- complete all work set to the best of their ability and within the deadline (unless there is a problem in which case the teacher should be informed in advance).
- adhere to all examination and coursework regulations.
- meet the required deadlines for coursework.
- accept responsibility for their own learning with the support of their subject teachers and tutor.
- use study time wisely.
Attendance:
- maintain full attendance and good punctuality to school and all lessons, curriculum enrichment sessions, registration, group and individual sessions with the Form Tutor, and assemblies.
- seek permission from appropriate subject staff, Form Tutor, Head or Assistant Head of Sixth Form and Head, if required, for planned absence (see induction booklet) and arrange holidays and appointments out of school time.
- ask for permission from the Head of Sixth Form or Assistant Head of Sixth Form to go home if they feel ill during the day and therefore have to miss lessons.
Other:
- contribute to the life of the Sixth Form by active involvement in extra-curricular activities offered at the School.
- act as a positive role model for the younger students by playing an active role in the school and setting a good example by not eating and drinking or using mobile phones in corridors/around school.
- maintain a high level of honesty and integrity.
- behave in an appropriate manner at all times, both in and out of School.
- show respect for others and be polite and helpful.
- adhere to the dress code (as outlined in the induction booklet) for everyday school and formal school events.
- keep Sixth Form areas clean and tidy.
- return all paperwork by the published deadline
- heed advice about keeping the number of hours of paid employment per week to a minimum, so as not to compromise 6th Form studies.
Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will:
- ensure attendance at School each day and if not to contact the School on the first day of absence giving a good reason for this.
- support the School in not making requests for absence during term time.
- ensure punctual attendance; 8.30am each day (8.50am on Wednesdays).
- support the School’s policies and guidelines on the dress code and behaviour, in particular the School’s Behaviour Policy and Anti-Bullying Policy.
- make the School aware of any problems/concerns that might affect work or behaviour.
- ensure that homework is completed and handed in on time.
- attend consultation evenings, other information evenings and individual meetings with the School as requested.
- ensure safe behaviour on the way to and from School.
