The RSC Secondary and Further Education (SaFE) Group has a limited number of bursaries available to support participation by RSC members (teachers and technical staff) and chemistry teachers in Teach Chem schools in workshops, conferences (such as the ASE or SaFE annual conference), and small pedagogical projects.
Bursary values of up to £200 will be awarded to members to either:
- enable attendance and participation at a workshop or conference, or
- to conduct a project aimed at enhancing pupil engagement in chemistry or improving accessibility to chemistry.
Applicants should outline how the funding will be used (registration fee, travel costs, equipment, etc.), and justify how the funding will benefit the applicant in their own professional capacity or their pupils’ engagement with chemistry.
Please note the following conditions:
- Applications must be submitted using this online form by 17:00 24 October 2025.
- Applicants must be members of the RSC (Affiliate/ Associate/ Member/ Fellow) or a chemistry teacher in a Teach Chem School, and successful recipients of bursaries are encouraged to join the Secondary and Further Education (SaFE) Interest Group
- Applications will be judged by committee members of the SaFE Group and awards will be made on the basis of equality, diversity and inclusion
- Successful applicants will be notified by email and bursaries will be paid by electronic fund transfer
- Where relevant, SaFE will fund the most economical form of transport available, in accordance with RSC policy.
- Bursary recipients are required to write a short account (200-400 words) of their participation in the event or the outcomes of the project for the RSC SaFE Group WordPress site. We would also be grateful if they could post on social media to highlight that they received the funding (the SaFE Group Facebook account is RSCSaFE)
