The Licensing and Regulatory Committee at its meeting on 3 December 2025 considered a report by the Director of Legal and Administration in relation to whether it should be mandatory for Taxi Drivers to accept payment of fares by credit/debit cards.  After consideration of the report, the Committee agreed at this meeting, to instruct the Director of Legal and Administration to undertake a public consultation to consider whether it should be mandatory for Taxi Drivers to accept payment of fares by credit/debit card and seek views on how this should be implemented.

The Committee will consider all views received to this consultation before making a decision on whether to amend Taxi Driver Licence and/or Taxi Vehicle Licence conditions in relation to accepting payment of fares by credit/debit cards.
