Preparing for your application

Before you begin, please read the information on the RSC scholarship webpage to check you are eligible to apply. If you have any questions about completing the form please get in touch with us at teach@rsc.org. Please also take a moment now to add this email address to your safe senders list - sadly sometimes we are unable to contact candidates because our messages end up in their junk/spam box.

If you have everything ready, completing the application form takes about 60 minutes. Alternatively, you can save a partially completed application form and return to it later. If you start completing the application form but don’t finish it, we may contact you with a reminder to complete your form.

Throughout our selection process, we're looking for evidence of how you meet the 'what do we look for in candidates section' on our website.

The first questions ask you to confirm that you are eligible to receive this type of government-funded student support in England. During the rest of the application form you'll be asked to complete:

Details of your academic background and qualifications

If you have an international degree you will need to upload a PDF from UK ENIC (formerly NARIC) confirming your degree is comparable to a UK Bachelor’s degree.

If your degree subject is anything other than Chemistry, our qualifications specialists may require a copy of your degree transcript to confirm that your degree course was comprised of at least 50% chemistry. There will be an opportunity to upload this as a PDF during the application process.

Details of any relevant experience with school-age young people (either in a voluntary or professional capacity)

Details of any background research you have undertaken before deciding to train as a Chemistry teacher (for example, conversations with practising teachers, watching school-based documentaries, reading relevant science education publications).

Details of why you believe chemistry education is important (for example, the impact that chemistry education has on young people and on society).

We strongly recommend that you prepare these answers in advance to copy and paste into the application form.
