Local authority maintained secondary schools and academies in Devon and Torbay are invited to apply for a limited number of grants to help fund instrumental/vocal lessons for children and young people from low income backgrounds, or who require additional support for other reasons.
An allocation of funding will be made to schools pro rata, based on the total number of children and young people on roll that are eligible for Free School Meals, at a rate of £2.50 per student each term. We will confirm the exact funding allocation that you are eligible to receive on receipt of your application.
This funding must be used to support instrumental and vocal lessons for those students with the greatest need, as identified by the school, but is not necessarily limited to children and young people eligible for Free School Meals.
Applications will need to be submitted termly and must be received by the Friday of the half term break, with payment released to the school in the second half of term. Please note applications received after the deadline will not be processed.
Schools will be responsible for deciding how the funding is used, but will be expected to provide feedback and relevant data on this in subsequent terms.
Schools will also be responsible for ensuring prompt payment to Visiting Music Teachers for all lessons delivered under the scheme.
Please note that Devon & Torbay Music Education Hubs reserve the right to occasionally observe lessons delivered under the scheme.
This funding is separate from, and in addition to, the Music Education Grant (MEG) funding allocation which all schools are eligible for, and is generally used to support Whole Class Ensemble Tuition (WCET).
