1. KENT LOCAL SECTION SMALL GRANT APPLICATION FORM

Requests should fall into one or more of the following categories, although we are prepared to consider requests for funding which may fall outside these areas:

 (a) Chemistry Clubs
The funds are targeted at activities run at schools or colleges outside the normal science curriculum which may be focussed on generating interest in chemistry across all ability levels or which may provide opportunities to stretch and challenge the already able and motivated.  Applications from existing chemistry clubs looking to expand or enhance activities would be welcome as would those from colleagues interested in starting a club. An application would need to indicate how the longevity of the proposal was ensured and how best practice and experience from it might be shared within and between other (perhaps feeder) schools. The application may be made by a teacher at a primary or secondary school for a sum up to £300

(b) Enhanced equipment
These funds are awarded against bids for equipment that would not normally be purchased through a school’s mainstream teaching budget and which would enrich the learning experience of students in either primary (science) or secondary (chemistry) studies. In particular this would be for equipment that supports innovative delivery of practical aspects of chemistry education. It should be noted that funding for items of equipment, essential for the teaching of chemistry courses will not be considered. Thus, a bid for replacement of old, existing items is unlikely to be approved. The application may be made by a teacher at a primary or secondary school for a sum up to £300

(c)  ChemSoc
KLS will consider providing support to student chemical societies that arrange events to promote an increased awareness of chemistry in the student community. This might include the arrangements associated with funding the visit of an industrialist to deliver a seminar to a student cohort or a visit to a company active in a relevant area of the chemical industry (for example the pharmaceutical and biotech industries). Applications are invited for sums up to £300

Review: While funding will be provided in advance for an approved application it will be provided on the condition that subsequent feedback is submitted to the KLS. Failure to do so will result in rejection of any subsequent funding applications. KLS may use this information to promote the scheme, to indicate to KLS members where funding has been provided or to share good practice.
