Dear Colleague,
Welcome to IDR’s 2026 survey of pay and benefits for engineering roles within the Aerospace, Defence and Shipbuilding sector.
We have been asked to gather aggregate data for the roles detailed below; therefore this year's survey is different from previous IDR Engineering surveys in which you may have taken part. The main change is that we have shortened it and tailored it specifically to your sector.
The survey aims to gather information on current salary levels for roles in the following areas:
• Operations (eg operator, technical operator)
• Technical (eg technician including senior, team leader)
• Supervisory (eg first-line supervisor, operations shift/duty manager)
• Engineering (eg engineer including junior, supervisory, senior/principal)
• Management (eg engineering manager/function head/director)
The results will provide you with a comprehensive overview of current pay rates for a range of key engineering roles. The results will also include details of shift pay, bonuses and the extent of recruitment and retention issues.
As a thank you for participating, each organisation will receive a complimentary copy of the summary findings.
The survey will take around 20 minutes to complete. You can fill it out in more than one sitting by clicking 'Save and Continue Later' at the bottom of any page and a link will be sent to you to allow you to edit your responses until the survey closes. If you wish, you can also print the survey and/or your responses to review offline by going to the end of the survey and selecting 'print response'.
The deadline for completing the survey has been extended to 5pm, Wednesday 30 September 2026.
