Ashurst Primary School: Public Consultation

St Helens Borough Council has approved a project to construct the new Ashurst Primary School on the existing school site.

The new school will remain a one form entry school but will provide enhanced classroom and learning environments with increased hall accommodation coupled with new provision for children with additional needs. The building itself will be more significantly more energy efficient than the existing school and will include such features as photovoltaic panels on the main roof.

The school itself will be constructed in two phases.

The first phase will be to create the new school on the site of the existing playground and this is expected to take approximately 56 weeks to complete. Some play surfaces will be retained with safe access provided for access from the existing school building. Upon completion and during a holiday period, the school will move into its new home.

The second phase will then involve carefully taking down the existing school to create the replacement play areas and enhanced car parking provision, this work is expected to take approximately 33 weeks.

Construction access will be via Chain Lane and onto New Glade Hill. There will be no contractor parking along New Glade Hill, and all deliveries will be arranged outside of the school’s busy times with the safety of our young people, staff, visitors and residents being of the highest priority.

It is also proposed that the adjacent grassed area, accessed from Ashurst Drive will be used for contractor parking during the construction process. This area will then be then returned to its original condition at the end of the project.

The proposals for the new school are outlined below and we would welcome any observations and comments which we will duly consider ahead of a future planning application.
