NHS.net Migration and Microsoft Teams
Over the past few months months we have been switching to NHS.net mail, the national, secure email collaboration service for health and social care in England and Scotland. This has given us the benefits that come with a nationally supported service, including an NHS helpdesk, safe and secure access to your emails using your own devices, and the ability to share directly with our colleagues at Kettering General Hospital who have been using NHS Mail for some time now.
It will put your emails calendar and Teams meetings in one place and – once set up – emails to your NGH account will automatically be sent through to your NHS.net account and your calendar will transfer so you don’t need to worry about losing or missing meetings, events and messages.
As we come to the end of the e-mail migration phase, we will soon begin migrating our Microsoft Teams access. This will allow you to communicate with colleagues throughout the wider NHS network with ease, inclusive of colleagues at Kettering General Hospital.
What is Microsoft Teams?
Microsoft Teams is a collaboration tool that provides a way to work together remotely and share information easily. It is a virtual hub for teamwork that allows your team to chat, call and work together on shared files – all in one place.
You can connect with your colleagues across different locations in a group call, sharing images, schedules and other documents with everybody at once.
With Teams you can:
- Invite NHSmail and non-NHSmail users to meetings.
- Start calls and send messages on the go.
- Organise meetings with up to 250 attendees.
- Collaborate with Multi-disciplinary teams and organise your work into different channels for more structured collaboration.
- Organise and host Live Events, which can be useful for training sessions and virtual conferences with a large audience (up to 10 000 attendees).
More information about Microsoft Teams can be found in the NHS Teams Training guide (PDF, 1.28Mb).
Do I need to fill in this form?
You will only need to complete this form if you are the owner or moderator of a team / channel on Microsoft Teams. These channels are found under the "Teams" tab in Microsoft Teams. If you are not the owner or moderator of one of these channels, you do not need to fill in this form.
What do I need to do?
If you are the owner or moderator of a Team / Channel in Microsoft Teams, this form will ask you for the following information:
- The channel owners full name.
- The channel owners nhs.net email address.
- The channel owners ngh.nhs.uk email address
- The name of your Microsoft Teams channel / team
Once your team has been set-up, you will be free to add individual channels and members to your team. If you need any support with this, please log a ticket with the IT Service Desk.
What will happen next?

The IT Department will set-up your new team on the nhs.net network. This will be available for you when you begin using Microsoft Teams with your nhs.net log-in. Your chat history and files will not be transferred to the new team, so we would advise you to make a back-up of this content if necessary.
If you have any additional questions, please contact Dave Bassant by e-mail.
