Recruitment

All local authorities and National Park authorities are required to establish an independent Local Access Forum to provide advice on the improvement of public access to land in that area for the purposes of open air recreation and the enjoyment of the area. In Norfolk, this Forum is the Norfolk Local Access Forum (NLAF).

The NLAF represents a range of countryside interests with regards to improving public access across our beautiful county.  It provides independent strategic advice to a number of organisations where there are implications or proposals around public access.  These organisations include Norfolk County Council (which appoints members); district and borough councils within Norfolk; Government Departments e.g. Defra and MOD as well as the Planning Inspectorate and the Highways Agency; Natural England; the Forestry Commission; English Heritage; Sport England; the Norfolk Coast AONB Conservation Board; parish and town councils in Norfolk.

We are looking to recruit new members with a passion for the outdoors to the Norfolk Local Access Forum.  We are looking to recruit people who:
  • live in or have an interest in Norfolk;
  • are young people or represent the views of young people;
  • are land owners/land managers;
  • are users of the network (walking, cycling, horse-riding/carriage driving, motorised vehicular use);
  • run a rural business or have an interest in tourism in the local area;
  • represent the interests of ethnic minorities or users with disabilities;
  • have other interests closely related to the public access network (health; heritage; natural environment; education).

We are seeking enthusiastic and proactive individuals with excellent communication skills and a drive to move things forward.  We welcome supplementary skill areas of benefit to Pathmakers, the NLAF's charitable arm, including: leadership, financial management, fund-raising, communications and advocacy.

An ability to discuss and consider a range of topics, issues and opinions with large groups and to work in partnership with others is important.

We encourage applicants from a diversity of backgrounds to apply in line with the Council's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and expect members to commit to enhancing equal opportunities during their work with the Forum.

The closing date for applications is 31st January 2019.
