Hate divides communities, co-operation builds them
We're campaigning to put co-operation at the heart of building peace. Here's where you can explore the theme and learn more about our campaign.
We’re owned by our members and exist to do right by them. Co-op member-owners rightly expect their Co-op to deliver meaningful social value in areas which matter to them and where our Co-op can make a real difference.
Co-operation for peace
Over the last 180 years we’ve been working to make the communities we serve become safer, kinder, more inclusive, more connected and more resilient.
Whether it be the Co-operative Women’s Guild creating the White Poppy in 1933 as a call for peace or co-operatives playing a critical role in Rwanda and in Guatemala in rebuilding communities torn apart by hate and division – co-ops have always sought to build peace.
Today, in Northern Ireland, we see Local Community Fund causes like PeacePlayers helping to build lasting friendships among people from communities with histories of conflict.
Owned by you. Right by you. It's something our member-owners care passionately about. Tens of thousands of them have told us that they're worried about hate and conflict in the UK and abroad. They believe that their Co-op, as we have in the past, should do all it can to not only advocate for peace but to also take action and use the co-operative model to help build peace too - in the UK and overseas.
