What is the purpose of this study? My name is Shannon McConnachie, I am a student at Glasgow Caledonian University, and I am conducting this study to fulfil the requirements of my degree. The purpose of this study is to understand gendered perceptions of intimate partner violence.

You are being invited to participate in a research study surrounding the issue of perceptions regarding intimate partner violence. Before you decide whether you wish to proceed, it is important that you understand why the research is being carried out and what will be asked of you. Please read the following information carefully and contact me if anything is unclear or you require any further information. Take your time to decide whether you wish to take part.

Am I eligible to take part? If you are over the age of 18 and have normal or corrected-to normal vision then you are eligible to participate.

Do I have to take part? No. It is your decision whether you decide to take part or not. If you do decide to participate, you will be issued this information sheet and asked to give consent. If you do decide to take part you can withdraw at any time without reason. Contact details will be provided on this sheet in case you wish to withdraw your data at a later date. A decision to withdraw or not to take part will not affect you in any way.

How do I withdraw? You will be asked to provide a 5 letter word identifier on the demographics page. Should you wish to withdraw use the contact information given on this sheet and give the 5 letter word identifier, this will then be used to locate your results and they will be destroyed.

Do I have the option not to answer some of the questions? Yes. If you do decide you do not want to answer a question for whatever reason you may choose to do so.

What will happen if I agree to take part? If you consent on taking part you will be presented with a short scenario and then asked to fill a questionnaire that consists of 11 questions. This experiment should take approximately fifteen minutes.

Will the information I provide be kept confidential? Yes. I will be the only person who will have access to any identification that you provide. It will not be possibly to identify any individual participant from the information gathered.

What will happen to the results? The results will be written up in my empirical project. I will retain all original data until July 2018, after that all original data will be destroyed.
