In celebration of World Space Week, we will be running our Space Explorers Day for Years 5 and 6 (age 9-11) on Wednesday 7 October 2026 - with arrival from 09:30 for a 10:00 start and a departure time of 14:20. The day will include fascinating live links up to our underground Mars Yard, 1.1 km beneath the surface, and to our Chilbolton Observatory, as well as hands-on challenges and activities. This is a chance to bring pupils to a working laboratory and meet the scientists, technicians and engineers who work here, sharing the excitement of space with them. You can also join online for the live links, which will be via Zoom webinar.
Registration of interest for the Space Explorers Day closes at midnight on Monday 29 June 2026. As many of our events are oversubscribed, once registration of interest closes the first 40% of places will be allocated by ballot to applying state schools located in areas where the IMD (Index of Multiple Deprivation) is 1-4 - this is part of our Wonder Initiative. The remaining places will be allocated to all remaining schools using a random number generator. All schools will be contacted by midnight on Wednesday 1 July 2026.
