Glasgow City Council is consulting on the detailed designs for Shields Road and Maxwell Road and would like your feedback on the proposed routes and associated improvements. The following questions focus on the features and adjustments you would like to see included in the proposals. There is also an opportunity to provide any other comments or tell us what would encourage and support you to walk or cycle more in these areas for everyday journeys.
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
The deadline for submitting responses is 15 November 2026.
Background
Building on the previous phase of work, undertaken between 2023 and 2025, which involved option appraisals and the preparation of concept designs for approximately 60km of active travel routes, selected routes are now being taken forward to the technical design stage.
This earlier work established the concept of a dense network of high-quality protected cycle routes and improved pedestrian infrastructure across Glasgow. The aim is to link services and facilities across multiple neighbourhoods, providing easy, safe and accessible active travel journeys across the city.
The updated Network Delivery Framework, which sets out how the network will be progressed, was approved by the City Administration Committee on 18 June 2026. Further details can be found here.
Selected routes within the Inner North and South areas are now being progressed to the next stage of design. These routes have been prioritised for design in 2026 as part of Glasgow's active travel delivery programme, Connecting Glasgow. The inner orbital and spoke routes connect with existing cycle infrastructure, helping to create a more joined-up and usable network across the city.
The future construction of these routes remains subject to funding.
