1. Community Facilities in Central Dalkeith
Page 1 of 5

There is a long history in Dalkeith of attempts to create community facilities to meet the expanding needs of the growing communities served by the town. Many people have spent a great deal of time trying to build support for one proposal or another - and they have all run out of steam at some point. So you may be wondering what is so different about this attempt - different enough to have a realistic prospect of creating the facilities we, and our neighbours, need and deserve. The simple answer is that this time the two Community Councils, of Dalkeith & District and Eskbank & Newbattle, have come together to create a permanent Working Group to channel the efforts, provide a focused response to any issues and to leverage all the varied skills and attributes of our many community groups and activists. Like you, we're tired of waiting. Midlothian Council wants the communities to come forward with ideas and to help drive the process. This survey is one part of an ongoing consultation process, designed to ensure that we represent all the community interests and viewpoints. Simultaneously, we are engaging with other community groups and Council officers and Councillors to develop a vision for the future of Community facilities in Dalkeith - and we're not going away until the job is done! You may have filled in surveys before. If it was recently, then rest assured we already have - and will collate - your input. If it was some time ago, I urge you to think again and once more make your views heard. And, if you can, ask a friend to do the same. This exercise gains immeasurably in value when a large percentage of people take part. It's our future - please help to shape it.

1. For the purposes of this survey we have assumed that facilities for "Central Dalkeith" are facilities that will serve all the residents of the actual town of Dalkeith and all of the surrounding communities too. Would you agree with that definition, or does Dalkeith mean something else to you?
