1. Overview

The following consultation aims to outline the proposal from Muirkirk Enterprise Group (MEG) to take on land at Smallburn Road, Muirkirk. The application from MEG is lodged with Kings and Lords Treasurer’s Remembrance and, as part of this process, East Ayrshire Council have been requested to provide a letter of support in relation to the proposal.
In order to do so, East Ayrshire Council need to firstly make consideration on the community benefit of the proposal therefore a consultation process has been agreed to consider the communities views.

BACKGROUND

The land, which forms the former site of the filling station on Smallburn road, had been indicated by the Community Council as an area which they receive a number of complaints in terms of appearance of the site. The Community Council developed a project to turn the site into a Picnic Stop which was successful as the 2nd most voted for project in the Participatory Budgeting event. In order to progress the project however the operation has been moved over to MEG as they are a more suitable body for ownership of land.

CONSULTATION

This consultation will provide all Muirkirk residents the opportunity to lodge their support/objection to the proposal and to provide some rationale for the support/objection. This information will be shared with MEG to allow the organisation to provide a response to the objections. All comments will be submitted and assessed as part of the consideration by East Ayrshire Council on Community Benefit.
