Clinical Attachments
We offer Clinical Attachments to International Medical Graduates applying for jobs with the NHS or preparing for the PLAB examinations to give the required experience.
Our Clinical Attachments are a non-paid, non-contact observerships. The Duration of our attachments are 6 weeks. During this time the doctor will be attached to a consultant and observe their work. Clinical attachments provide invaluable experience of the NHS and can help overseas doctors gain a reference for future job applications.
Medical Electives
Northampton General Hospital can take a limited number of Medical Electives each academic year.
We run an elective programme for medical students in their penultimate or final year of study interested in a clinical placement at Northampton General Hospital. These placements give you the opportunity to explore a particular medical specialty in a different healthcare environment as part of your degree. This is a non-paid, non-contact observership.
We welcome Elective applications from all international Medical Schools and all Medical Schools within the UK except for students from either Leicester Medical School or Oxford Medical School.
Costs
The cost of a clinical attachment or medical elective placement is £400 GBP, which is payable prior to the commencement of your placement and forms part of your clearances. If the payment is not made, you will not be given a start date and will be unable to undertake the placement.
Duration
Our Clinical Attachment and Medical Elective placements are for a period of 6 weeks.
Excluded Specialities
Please be advised at present we are unable to provide Clinical Attachments or Medical Electives in the following specialties:
- Emergency Medicine
- Plastic Surgery
- Psychiatry (see below)
