Each year Arun District Council must decide whether to change the Council Tax Reduction scheme for working age applicants in its area. There are no changes for Pension Age applicants as they are part of the national scheme. This year the Council is deciding whether to change certain aspects of the working age Council Tax Reduction Scheme.

We are legally required to consult on any proposed changes to the scheme and we’re asking you to take part in this consultation to find out what you think about our proposed changes to the Council's Council Tax ReductionScheme, which would start from 1 April 2026. We want to:

  • To increase the maximum level of support to households with the lowest incomes to 100% (Part 1);
  • To reduce the minimum award level from £5 per week to £1 per week (Part 2);
  • Provide more assistance to Universal Credit claimants who receive either the Limited Capability for Work element  (LCW) or the Limited Capability for Work and Work Related Element (LCWRA) by disregarding it from the calculation of income (Part 3);
  • Provide more assistance to those applicants who provide care and receive either Carer's Allowance or the Carer Element of Universal Credit by disregarding any amounts from the calculation of income (Part 4); and
  • By continuing to provide support to the Armed Forces by disregarding income from War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Schemes (Part 5).

Thank you for taking the time to share your views. It should take around 10 minutes to fill in this consultation.
