The National Autistic Society are supporting a research project named BEAMS-ID, which will trial a therapy to address anxiety in adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities. People with moderate to severe learning disabilities are more likely to have anxiety disorders, and we want to find out if this therapy is effective.
The study is led by University of Birmingham, and involves multiple partners including the Challenging Behaviour Foundation.
We are helping to recruit family carers to form an advisory panel. The panel will meet periodically throughout the 5 year project, to share their thoughts, ideas and insight. There will be 9 meetings in total, 4 taking place in person (with plenty of notice and travel costs reimbursed). You may be invited to review documents between meetings also (this will be optional). This is a paid opportunity at £25 per hour.
To express interest in joining the panel you must be:
- a family carer of an adult with moderate to severe learning disabilities (they may or may not be autistic also)
- living in the UK
We are looking to recruit a diverse group, with a mix of different ages, genders, ethnicities and geographical locations.
PLEASE NOTE: the Challenging Behaviour Foundation are also recruiting to the same panel. If you have applied through them you do not need to apply again through us. The opportunity is the same, whichever charity you are recruited through.

How will we use this data?
All data within this form will be stored inline with the National Autistic Society's privacy policy and will not be shared with anyone beyond University of Birmingham and Challenging Behaviour Foundation for the stated purpose of this project. Completing this form is entirely optional.
