West Suffolk Council is developing a new culture and heritage strategy to shape the future of cultural and heritage experiences across the district. This consultation is your opportunity to help inform that strategy by sharing your views on what matters to you, what’s working well, and where there are gaps or opportunities for improvement.
What do we mean by culture and heritage?
In this consultation, culture refers to a wide range of activities and experiences, including:
· performing arts (such as theatre, dance, and live music)
· visual arts (like painting, photography, and sculpture)
· literature, poetry, and storytelling
· film, cinema, and media
· events and festivals
· cultural education and creative participation
· local traditions, crafts, and celebrations
Heritage includes both tangible and intangible aspects of our shared history and identity, such as:
· museums, galleries, and libraries
· historic buildings, monuments, and memorials
· archaeological sites and natural heritage (woodlands, parks, landscapes)
· local customs, languages, and community history
We are interested in your experiences and ideas about what makes West Suffolk a culturally rich and historically significant place to live, work, and visit — and what could be done to support, preserve, or grow this in the future.
Your views will help us understand what’s important to our communities and ensure that the new strategy reflects local aspirations and needs.
This consultation will close on 27 June 25.
