Back in 2016, the people of Drayton came together to create a Neighbourhood Plan – a document that set out how we want our village to grow and change. It gave us a stronger say in how and where new development happens, what we want to protect, and what we’d like to improve.
Since then, the Plan has helped the Parish Council to:
- Shape and influence local planning decisions
- Focus on the things that matter most to our community
- Secure over £384,000 in extra funding from developers (through Community Infrastructure Levy) which has been spent on improvements like picnic tables and benches, defibrillators, CCTV, bike racks, fencing, bins, the new play equipment at the King George V Playing Field, new goals for the local football teams and a kick wall at Longdale.
But the current Neighbourhood Plan only runs until 2026, and a lot has changed since it was first written. There’s been a significant amount of new housing built in Drayton, including large developments like Wensum View and Church Farm. At the same time, national planning rules have also changed, with new requirements to protect nature, support biodiversity, and make development more sustainable.
To make sure our Plan continues to guide the right kind of development, and gives us protection from inappropriate proposals, we need to refresh it.
How you can help
We’ve started work on reviewing and updating the Plan. This will take around a year and we want to hear from as many residents as possible to shape the future of Drayton. To get started, we’re asking you to fill in a short survey. It should only take around 10 minutes. Please encourage everyone in your household to take part, including younger people under 18, we want to hear a range of voices.
The survey will run for four weeks from the 10 September until midnight on 8 October 2025.
Paper copies are available at The Bob Carter Centre. Taking part is completely voluntary and anonymous. You don’t have to answer every question, just skip any that you’re not sure about. Every response counts and your input will help shape the next 15 years in Drayton.
