This survey forms part of the Fairfield Independent Review. The Review is assessing the Metropolitan Police Service's (‘the Met’) progress against the recommendations made in Baroness Casey's 2023 review.

What the Review covers: The Fairfield Independent Review is examining how the Met is addressing the serious problems identified by Baroness Casey, including institutional racism, misogyny and homophobia, and failures in leadership, culture and standards. The Review is assessing:

  • The pace and prioritisation of the Met’s response to the Casey Review recommendations
  • The impact of changes made so far
  • What further work is needed to achieve meaningful and lasting cultural change

You don't need to be familiar with the Casey review or the Met’s response to its recommendations to continue. The questions that follow ask for your views based on what you've seen, heard or experienced about policing in London in the last 3 years. There are ‘don't know’ options for every question, and you can skip any question you prefer not to answer.

What we're asking you about in this survey:

  • Your awareness of recent changes at the Met
  • Your experiences and observations of policing in London
  • Your perceptions of the Met’s culture, standards and conduct
  • If relevant, your personal experiences of crime and contact with the Met over the last 3 years

What this survey does not cover: This survey focuses on cultural change and standards within the Met. It does not ask about specific operational decisions, individual criminal cases, ongoing investigations or rates of crime and disorder in London.

Who can take part: The survey is open to everyone who lives in London or has lived in London within the last 3 years.

How long it takes: The survey should take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete.

Your privacy and anonymity: The Review is independent of the Met and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).

The only people who will have access to the information you give when answering the survey will be the independent Review Team. Your answers will not be accessed by the Met, MOPAC or any other individual or organisation. The Review Team will ensure when reporting the survey findings that no one is able to be identified from the answers they have given. As survey responses are anonymous, the Review Team will not be able to identify responses to delete data once it has been submitted.

For more information about the Review, including how we handle your data, please see a full privacy notice here and visit our website.

Your choices: Other than the first question, which asks you to confirm whether you live or have lived in London, you can choose not to answer any of the other questions by selecting ‘prefer not to say’. You can close the survey at any time and come back to your place later. The survey will close on 30th April 2026.

Get involved further: If you would like to take part further in the Review through a Citizens’ Engagement Forum, please see the website for further details on taking part.

Getting support: This survey asks about potentially sensitive topics including experiences of crime and policing. If you need support, details of organisations who can help are provided at the end of the survey and on our website.
