Information on the role:
Grants Advisory Panel
Our Grants Advisory Panel helps to improve the lives of people living with or at risk of diabetes by influencing the research funded by Diabetes UK. The Panel, completely made up of people living with or at risk of diabetes or their parents/carers. They review and score all research grant applications, helping us to ensure that the views of people affected by diabetes are considered when deciding on which research to fund. Their voices ensure that we’re funding research that would make the biggest difference to people affected by diabetes.
Who We Want to Hear From
Diabetes UK wants to ensure our panels are inclusive of different populations and experiences such as including people from different ethnic or socioeconomic backgrounds. It is important to us that our panels represent the diversity of people living with or affected by diabetes
We know that due to long-standing inequalities, people from ethnically diverse populations continue to experience poorer care and outcomes and suffer from inequalities that impact their quality of life. We particularly want to hear from people affected by or at risk of type 2 diabetes from Black African, African Caribbean and South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi) backgrounds. We know these ethnic groups are at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes at a younger age.
Currently we are looking to recruit people affected by or at risk of type 2 diabetes to help us improve the representation of:
- people from Black, Black British, Caribbean or African backgrounds
- people from Asian or Asian British (for example Indian, Pakistani, Chinese) backgrounds
- people from Arab (for example Egyptian, Moroccan, Saudi Arabian) backgrounds
We still want to hear from people affected by diabetes and are not from the backgrounds listed above, especially those with experience living with or at risk of type 2 diabetes.
