Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) were introduced by the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2012 to tackle anti-social and nuisance behaviour. The need for them has to be supported by evidence and they have to be reviewed every three years to either update or renew or expire.
We want to hear views from members of the public and statutory consultees on our Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs). This survey is intended to gather views from local stakeholders so that West Suffolk can make an informed decision on all PSPO renewals. If you find that once you finish the survey, you would like to comment on a different section, please retake the survey.
PSPO (alcohol, begging and non congregation of vehicles) - this is used to tackle specific anti-social behaviour (ASB) issues in a local area and gives the council and police greater powers to act. PSPO for dog walkers (dog fouling and dog exclusion zones) - this is a PSPO, but focused on preventing dog fouling as well as excluding dogs from some public areas.
Additionally, West Suffolk Council has received a request from the Forestry Commission to consider the introduction of a Public Space Protection Order covering their land that falls within West Suffolk (map of proposed PSPOs). The Forestry Commission have seen an increase in accidental and near miss fires within the forest area, with the use of disposable barbeques, campfires and other open flames being a consistent factor in these incidents. The Forestry Commission have requested West Suffolk Council consult on a proposed PSPO prohibiting the use of disposable barbeques and open fires.
