The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) recently launched its upstream regulation team, with the aim of proactively preventing breaches of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR). The team’s objective is to provide more support for public authorities dealing with Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. This includes the provision of FOI resources through our website or by attending relevant events; and the publication of enforcement notices, information notices and practice recommendations. While this stream of work is ongoing, we are seeking views from public authorities and other FOI practitioners to help us in planning the next stages, as well as feeding into a review once the workstream is complete.

The feedback survey on the current FOI resources will remain open until 5pm on 16 May 2024. We may not consider responses that are received after this deadline. The survey should take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete.
The ICO welcomes feedback to the specific questions set out in this survey.

The survey is structured as follows:

  • Your views on our FOI resources;
  • Impacts to date; and
  • Background information about you.

If you have any questions or difficulties, please contact: foiupstreamregulationteam@ico.org.uk
