Welcome to the Road Transport Security Standards (RTSS) self-assessment. This is a voluntary programme designed to support commercial freight, bus and coach operators to better protect their vehicles from hijacking or being targeted for terrorist purposes, including attacks on crowded places or the transport system.

Adoption of the RTSS will help organisations to safeguard their personnel, vehicles, and other assets against a range of threats including theft and sabotage, whilst contributing to wider efforts to improve security and resilience in the transport sector.

The standards follow the principles of the specification requirements of PAS 29000:2021 – Commercially Operated Vehicles: How to prevent commercial vehicles being used for terrorism and other forms of serious and organised crime.

This assessment form will help you judge whether your current practices are in line with the standards. Before you complete the self-assessment, and for more information on best practice access the "Road Transport Security Standards Toolkit [opens in a new window]".

The self-assessment covers the five standards of the toolkit which are:

  1. Governance and security management.
  2. Risk assessment.
  3. Delivery plan.
  4. Security at base location.
  5. Security on the road.

Respondents are advised to answer as many questions as possible and provide as much information as possible.

Respondents will receive feedback and advise on how to improve their assessment.
