A National Voice
A National Voice is the ‘National Children in Care Council’ for children in care and care leavers in England, who are passionate about how the care system works and how it affects those within it.
We work to improve the care system through the voices of care experienced young people. We will empower children and young people by giving them the skills and support to make real change at both a local and national level.
We also work with care experienced children and young people to overcome issues which we feel are significant, through local and national campaigns, influencing government and creating opportunities for children in care and care leavers to come together in shared spaces.
How A National Voice works
As the National Children in Care Council, we provide platforms and opportunities for anyone working with care-experienced children and young people across England. This includes Children in Care Councils, care leaver forums and other participation groups.
Through this work, we explore key issues and develop campaigns and projects shaped by young people’s priorities.
Examples of our work include:
- Holding national and regional events where Children in Care Councils can network, share learning and influence national work
- Running polls and surveys to understand what matters most to children in care and care leavers
- Creating opportunities for Children in Care Councils to shape and take part in national campaigns, such as The Grand Campaign on improving support for setting up home, and Messages to the Minister
- Involving Children in Care Councils in national consultations, including the 2021 Independent Care Review in England
- Championing and promoting the work of Children in Care Councils across England
