Active Travel Behaviour Changes in Shetland

1. Background Information

ZetTrans and its partners are producing an Active Travel Strategy for Shetland.  As part of the strategy development, we want to understand your travel behaviour in Shetland, and how this may have been impacted by Covid-19.

This survey, which should take about 10 minutes to complete, will assess:
  • Travel before, during and after the Covid-19 travel restriction;
  • Working at home behaviours
  • Views on the availability and quality of active travel provision in Shetland.

At the end of the survey, you will be directed to our online Placecheck map, where you can leave location-specific comments on issues experienced and ideas for improvements.  A quick registration process is required to be able to leave feedback on the map.

SYSTRA Ltd., a transport consultancy, are supporting ZetTrans in the development of the Active Travel Strategy.

SYSTRA will independently analyse and report on the findings of this survey. ZetTrans will use your survey responses to help us develop a range of active travel improvement options for Shetland. These will form part of the new Active Travel Strategy which we will also be seeking public feedback on later in 2020.

All data collected will be stored securely by the project team (ZetTrans, Shetland Islands Council and transport consultants SYSTRA Ltd). Your responses will only be used for the purpose described above. This research complies with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation.

Please DO NOT include any personal data in the free text / comments boxes (e.g. name, occupation, contact details). Any personal data provided will be removed from the survey results and destroyed.

If you would like more information about the study, please contact

The survey will be open until Sunday 31st May 2020.
