Purpose

This form is for organisations who are looking to host trainees from the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS) on a two-month flexi placement. Submissions will be shared directly with trainees through our online learner management system.

About GMTS

The Scheme is a two to two-and-a-half year fast-track leadership development programme for future health and care leaders. Trainees are recruited for their potential and motivation, previous experience is not required although the Scheme is also open to those already in the NHS. On the Scheme, trainees specialise in one of six areas, outlined in Duration and timing. All trainees undertake a minimum of three work-based placements in health and care organisations, tackling real challenges in healthcare. Alongside this, all trainees complete further education in leadership development as well as a postgraduate diploma in their chosen specialism.

What is a flexi placement

Flexi placements are a two-month placement of the trainees choosing. They can be in any organisation and sector in England (placements cannot be hosted outside England). During the flexi placement, trainees continue to be employed by the Scheme; there is no salary required from flexi placement organisations. Flexi organisations are required to provide any resources reasonably required to complete the placement such as security passes, laptops, mobile phones and training.

For the trainee, the flexi placement will provide personal and professional development that will contribute to the trainee’s success on the Scheme and within the NHS. For the NHS, the flexi placement will provide the means of exposure to best practice, innovation, specialism norms, creative industry practices, different styles of management and new business practices and the transfer of these experiences to benefit the NHS.

Duration and timing

The flexi placement should be eight weeks (40 working days). This can be extended to account for annual leave or study commitments that fall during the placement.

Each specialism completes the flexi placement at different timings; this has been designed to maximise the benefit for the trainee in terms of their experience and academic commitments.

  • General Management, Human Resources and Health Informatics - September to October
