MaPS is working with the Institute of Money Advisers (IMA) to recruit and select debt advisers to join the MaPS Debt Adviser Panel. The aim of the panel is to provide feedback and insight on current and emerging issues from the frontline and to bring the voices of debt advisers closer to the decision making at MaPS.

What is the MaPS Debt Adviser Panel?

In 2023, MaPS first convened a Debt Adviser Panel.  Reflecting the breadth and diversity of the debt advice sector, panel members work for different types of employers, reflect different ways of delivering services, have different levels of experience and are based in different areas of England.

The group share their experiences of working with clients and delivering services with MaPS and other stakeholders to support and inform policy development. The group meet online every couple of months (usually a 2 hour meeting during standard working hours ie between 9am – 5pm Mon-Fri) to discuss a specific topic this could include:

·       Debt adviser wellbeing

·       Pain points in the advice process

·       Working with different creditor sectors

·       Working with different clients

·       Offering views on new government or sector initiatives (recent sessions have included a session with the DWP  Public Authority Fraud & Error Bill and with the Enforcement Conduct Board)

Though they have been selected to represent the diversity of the sector, advisers are taking part in a personal capacity sharing their views and experience rather than representing their employer. All discussions are treated confidentially and respectfully.

To acknowledge the time that advisers are giving to support the work of the panel MaPS provides a voucher for each panel meeting attended which can be redeemed at a wide selection of retailers.

Panel Membership Selection

The IMA are supporting MaPS to refresh and update the panel membership. If you are interested in being part of the panel, please complete the following survey to share details about yourself and your work as a debt adviser. The IMA will then review applications and provide recommendations to MaPS about the selection of the panel members, ensuring they reflect the diversity and range of the debt sector.

The application window will run from June 2025, and will close in September. New panel members will be notified by email.

By completing this survey you are agreeing to share your data with MaPS and the IMA for the purposes of the adviser panel recruitment. If you later change your mind and wish to withdraw your response, or you need to change your responses you can do so by emailing debtteam@maps.org.uk

If you have any questions on this, please email the IMA at office@i-m-a.org.uk before submitting your response.

1. I agree that MaPS can share the data I complete here with the Institute of Money Advisors (IMA). This will be used only for the purposes of the adviser panel recruitment. *
