Dear Norton Resident

Your Parish Council is preparing a Neighbourhood Plan for Norton Parish. A map showing the Neighbourhood Plan Area follows. The questionnaire that follows will help us to determine the overall direction of our plan and so it is important that you and your family take this opportunity to make your views known.

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?

A Neighbourhood Plan is a new way for local people to influence the planning and development of the area in which they live and work.  They usually cover periods of at least 10 years and provide an opportunity for a community to…

●       Develop a shared vision for the Parish.

●       Choose where new homes and other developments may be built.

●       Influence the type of development.

●       Identify and protect important local green spaces or other treasured assets.

Why Do We Need It?

Mid Suffolk District Council is embarking on the preparation of a new long-term plan for the district. This “Local Plan” will identify where new housing and other development will go over at least the next 20 years. It is quite likely that they would look to Norton to take more housing development given that the Government’s housing requirements for the district have increased from 535 a year to 734.

Preparing a Neighbourhood Plan provides you with an opportunity to have a say on where development should and should not take place and to consider other matters for protection or improvement. To be permitted, a planning application would have to meet the requirements of the Neighbourhood Plan as well as the Local Plan and national planning guidelines.

Norton Parish Council has decided to prepare a Neighbourhood Plan and a Working Group of volunteers and councillors has been set up to help prepare it. One of our first steps is to invite residents’ views on matters that the Plan could cover.

Please complete the survey by Friday 27th June

At the end of the survey you will be redirected to a separate survey which provides an opportunity to enter the Prize Draw.

As an added incentive for completing the survey, the Parish Council has kindly donated a £50 meal voucher to be used at The Dog Public House.
