1. Introduction

From quantum, semiconductors, sensors to energy storage, and materials, physics deep tech is driving major transformations across diverse sectors such as space, energy, and medical devices and instrumentation. 

Despite these major opportunities, start-ups working in physics deep tech appear to be difficult to invest into, especially in the scaling up stages.

Consultation aims and outputs

The IOP is undertaking a project on Venture Capital investment in physics deep tech. We're seeking the views of UK Fund Managers on raising, managing, and deploying funds in physics deep tech and wider science-related sectors.

Through this consultation and project, we hope to identify ways to support the UK VC industry to raise funds and deploy capital in physics deep tech, more easily.

We will share the findings from this consultation with UK policy makers and key stakeholders in the wider VC community in a short report, which will provide a starting point for addressing the barriers that are holding back investment in physics deep tech. The timeframe for publication is towards the end of the summer.

About the survey

All responses will be anonymised and reported on an aggregate basis for inclusion in a final report, which will be published towards the end of the summer.
