Shetland Islands Council Local Housing Strategy Development

1. Early Engagement Survey: Identifying Key Local Housing Issues and Priorities for Action.

The Local Housing Strategy (LHS) for Shetland is nearing implementation and will require to be redrafted and submitted to the Scottish Government by the end of 2021. To build the new strategy, Shetland Islands Council must assess whether previous LHS priorities still represent the main housing issues that need to be tackled today or whether a new set of local priorities should guide action, partnership and investment.

To achieve this, we are asking local residents and communities to share your views on the housing issues that matters most to you and that should have an important place in the new Local Housing Strategy.

To do this, we are asking you to complete this survey which should take no more than 5 minutes. This is an important opportunity for local residents and communities to have a voice in shaping the strategy for housing services and investment in Shetland over the next 5 years and we are very keen to hear your views.

There is an option to provide your name and contact details at the conclusion of this survey. If you consent to providing your personal details, these should be inputted when asked, and will be used to potentially contact you for your opinion in future surveys and focus groups. This is optional and you do not have to provide your details to complete the survey. The details provided will only be used for the purpose of obtaining views in relation to the Local Housing Strategy. The information provided by you is processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 to allow us to effectively consult on the local housing market in Shetland.  The Data Protection Act 2018 gives you the right to know how we will use your data. Further information about how we use your personal data is available from the Housing Service or the Council’s website at

The questions should be answered by selecting the responses which you think most accurately answers the question. As well as being provided with multiple choice questions, a number of free-text boxes will be available to input your opinion and feedback. When completing these free-text boxes, you should NOT include any personal data about yourself or anyone else in these boxes. Only information in response to the question asked should be included, eg the biggest challenge for housing at present.

Sincere thanks for taking the time to complete this very important survey. It's the important first stage in starting the conversation on what the  housing vision and local priorities in Shetland should be.
