This is a short update on our savings plans with some survey questions to gather information from you.

Notes on the library budget

Shetland library is looking for £48,000 savings in the coming year, which is over 4% of our budget.
The library service has always met budget targets, and our current budget of £990,729 is lower than it was in 2011.
We operate with nearly 30% less staff than we did in 2011.
Our ‘cost per visit’ is lower than the Scottish average and the fifth cheapest in Scotland.
We have some of the highest book borrowing and visit figures in the UK.
The library budget covers our public, school and mobile libraries and online services.
