School Streets Scheme at Victoria Park Primary School
The aims of the School Streets Scheme are to tackle congestion, unsafe parking and air pollution at the school gates and to make it safer and easier to walk, scoot and cycle to school. It could also reduce the impacts of school traffic for local residents.
Bristol City Council is conducting early engagement on draft proposals to change Atlas Road and Raymend Road, directly outside of Victoria Park Primary School into a pedestrian and cyclist only School Streets Zone at school start and finish times. Vehicles would be prohibited from entering Atlas Road or Raymend Road for one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon, at school start and finish times. As well as this we are looking to permanently trial the reversal of the one way system on Raymend Road and extend up to Stanbury Road - moving traffic away from St John’s Lane northbound. We are also introducing a new one-way system on the lower part of Kensal Road between Kensal Avenue and Atlas Road. Traffic will travel northbound, away from Atlas Road.
The School Streets Zone is likely to operate between 8.15am – 9.15 am and between 3.00pm - 4.00pm, although this may be subject to change.
We would like your views now, before the pilot scheme starts, to help us refine the scheme design. We would like to know what you think of the existing traffic and parking situation on Atlas Road, Raymend Road, other surrounding roads and your opinion of the proposed scheme overall.
