Violence against women and girls (VAWG) has become an increasingly prominent issue in public discussions and across the transport industry. We know that safety concerns affect how women and girls use transport, yet there is still a gap in understanding how well these challenges are recognised and addressed by those working in the sector.
When we talk about transport, we mean the full journey from A to B. This includes not just safety on the mode of transport itself, but also at stops, stations, interchanges, walking, wheeling and cycling routes and other transport settings such as parking.
Building on the work undertaken by the Transport Champions in 2021, we are seeking to further understand the sector’s current baseline and where action is most needed. You can view the Transport Champions’ recommendations here: Violence Against Women and Girls: Recommendations by the Transport Champions (WMCA, 2021).
