The Thoroughfare and Cumberland Street improvements

Earlier this year, we held a consultation to gather views on how we can improve the town centre to:

-    make it safer to walk, wheel and cycle by providing more space (e.g. widening pavements), safer crossing points and creating safer junctions
-    provide more options to walk, wheel and cycle for local journeys, by reducing speeds and making the road less busy for those who have to use them
-    improve public spaces to make walking, wheeling and cycling more attractive and convenient for everyone

Following this consultation, we’ve confirmed plans to widen pavements on Quay Street to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility. To support these improvements, Quay Street will become one-way northbound.

At the same time, we’ve been exploring ways to minimise traffic from the Thoroughfare and Cumberland Street traveling through Market Hill, while maintaining convenient routes for drivers leaving the town centre.

Working closely with the Town Council and other key stakeholders, we’ve carried out further assessments and developed new proposals for traffic movements to help make Woodbridge’s town centre safer, calmer, and more welcoming for everyone.
