Tamworth does not currently have any parish councils, unlike surrounding areas. This consultation seeks views on whether there should be a parish council for the whole borough of Tamworth.
This consultation is part of a formal legal process called a Community Governance Review. Your views on whether to create a parish council for Tamworth is vital, and will shape what happens next.
Happening alongside this review is local government reorganisation, where all ten Staffordshire councils (including county council) will be replaced by unitary councils delivering all local services in the area. We’re currently waiting for the government’s decision on what this looks like for Staffordshire.
We’re starting a consultation now to understand whether local people feel it is important to create a parish council for Tamworth as Tamworth Borough Council will not exist from April 2028 (this is the current timetable government have indicated).
