0%

The Higher Education Archive Programme (HEAP) is part of The National Archives’ continuing programme of engagement and sector support. It is a mixture of strategic and practical work encompassing activity across The National Archives and the wider archives and academic sectors.

Network meetings are the main strand of the programme. These cover a wide range of topics and are open to all those working in university archives, libraries and special collections.

We are recruiting four Steering Group members and would welcome expressions of interest from archivists and special collections staff, at all career levels, working in the Higher Education sector.

HEAP Steering Group members are instrumental in the planning and delivery of HEAP’s event programme. We are looking for members who will actively engage and work collectively to devise a relevant programme of events and guidance.

Over the past year the following topics have been covered: collecting Students’ Union records; DIY digital preservation solutions and support with Archive Accreditation.

Commitment: We aim to run approximately two full Steering Group meetings per year (each between one and two hours long) with further sub-group meetings to facilitate the programme (approximately five hours annually plus attendance at events). There will be one in-person event per year – all other meetings will take place online.

If you enjoy working with fellow professionals and are keen to develop strategy and facilitate a programme of relevant events please complete this form.

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Experience, knowledge and areas of interest/practice relevant to the Higher Education sector. This will be assessed in line with gaps in the current Steering Group.
  • We are looking for an active and participatory Steering Group comprised of professionals at varying stages of their career with a range of interests and practices.

The closing date is Friday 12 September 2025.

Following the publication of our Research Strategy in 2024, The National Archives is keen to maximise the potential that lies at the intersection of archives and research. We envision that the challenges, expertise and support of the HEAP Steering Group will support us in continuing to facilitate opportunities for professional development and knowledge exchange.
