The Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme (AIPS), which is supported by HMRC, enables students to purchase an instrument for educational purposes without paying VAT (Value Added Tax). In order to comply with HMRC regulations, the following criteria must apply:
Students must be in full time education at a Local Authority maintained school or college (not an Academy or Independent school)
OR
Students must regularly participate in an ensemble, music centre, or county music group supported by Devon Music Education Hub
In addition, the following terms and conditions apply:
- The instrument must be used as part of the student's education i.e they must be having music lessons
- The instrument must be appropriate to the student’s needs - please ask your child's instrumental teacher to advise
- The instrument will be purchased by the Hub through an approved supplier, with ownership transferred to the parent/carer on collection
- The price charged will be at or below cost, but a small administrative charge of £10 will apply to each transaction
- We will contact you when your instrument is ready to collect from our Willand offices or a place agreed with us.
