Land Studio is commissioned by Bridgend County Borough Council to develop a Green Masterplan for the Cornelly Community Council area (This includes Kenfig as well). The goal of the Greenspace Masterplan is to enhance the quality, quantity, amenities and function of the study area now and in the future. Greenspace in this instance refers to parks, trails, schools and higher education, community centres, employment centres, riverfront lands, open spaces and connector streets. It also includes the verges and other small and awkward spaces that are available for added greenspace interventions such as parklets and / or wildlife benefit. Embedded within this masterplan is a desire to connect people to their greenspaces and their community in an effort to inspire them to want to protect these spaces from the effects of climate change and biodiversity collapse. The plan will also identify areas that are important to the local heritage and folklore of Cornelly, and areas that might be vulnerable to development.
Connectivity is a key to facilitating the plan, both in terms of active travel/recreation routes and ecological networks. Recognising how greenspaces can be best used for biodiversity enhancement and net gain. Part of the strategy will acknowledge the potential in underutilised spaces, brownfields and vacant sites.
