Following a Supreme Court ruling last year and new statutory national guidance published this month, we are looking at how our toilet, washing and changing facilities are used, and want to understand how any changes may affect people.
Norfolk County Council needs a clear position for facilities, spaces and accommodation across our buildings, and we have an interim policy position which is designed to create a lawful, respectful and workable approach.
In the past people have been able to choose to use facilities on the basis of their acquired gender, however the court ruling and new statutory guidance has clarified that single-sex facilities should be used according to biological sex at birth.
We are asking for feedback on our interim policy to make sure that any negative impacts are avoided as far as possible before a final policy is agreed.
