Developing Richmond and Wandsworth Adult Social Care Best Practice Language Guide

1. Introduction

Richmond and Wandsworth Adult Social Care are developing a language guide to help improve the use of inclusive, person-centred, and respectful communication.

Why Inclusive Language Matters
Inclusive language helps everyone feel respected, valued, and understood. The words we use can have a big impact on how people experience services and interact with staff. By using person-centred and respectful language we can promote dignity and equality for all.

In developing this guide we are also engaging with existing community support groups for their input.

Through this survey we aim to collect the views of our Richmond and Wandsworth Borough residents who have had contact with our staff and services. This questionnaire should only take around 10 minutes to complete and is entirely anonymous, unless you decide to leave your contact details but this is not required. Please complete this survey by the Monday 26th January 2026.

We really appreciate your assistance in helping us to create this guidance on everyday terminology used in Adult Social Care.
