At NFCC, we are committed to helping fire and rescue services build inclusive, respectful, and psychologically safe workplaces. Recognising and embracing neurodiversity is a vital part of this commitment.
To support this, we have worked with cross-sector specialists to review and refresh the existing NFCC Neurodiversity Toolkit. The updated version aims to improve understanding and awareness of neurodiversity, and to help services and managers hold informed, supportive conversations that foster environments where neurodivergent individuals can thrive.
You can access the document to review here: NFCC Neurodiversity Toolkit
Key improvements include:
- Clearer structure and content navigation
- Practical support and relevance
- Targeted content for different audiences
- New and updated information
- Enhanced signposting and links to additional NFCC resources
Before the toolkit is published, we would like to gather your feedback, focusing on content and language.
The revised toolkit includes the following content:
- Glossary
- What is neurodiversity?
- Talking about neurodiversity
- Understanding neurodivergent conditions
- Reasonable and workplace adjustments
- Support and resources
Please note, the toolkit will be expanded to include two additional sections featuring:
- Listen and Learn – Neurodiversity
- Strategic Masterclass - Reasonable and Workplace Adjustments
These additional sections will further support interactive learning and group activity. We may also explore incorporating positive practice case studies from across the sector. Where possible, reference the relevant line number to your comment. The survey will close at 17:00 on Friday 2nd January 2026. If you experience any issues or need support accessing the toolkit or completing the consultation, please contact: PCLhub@nfcc.org.uk.

What happens next?
After the survey closes, we will review all feedback and update the toolkit accordingly. The final version will meet accessibility standards and be published as a web-based resource to help different audiences easily navigate and find relevant content. We aim to launch the toolkit by Spring 2026.
