Guidance to creating and supporting a petition online using the council’s e-petition facility

Creating an e-petition
To set up an e-petition, you must complete this online petition registration form which will be submitted to the Council. As petition organiser you will need to provide us with:
·         Your name
·         Postal address
·         Email address
·         Name of the e-petition
·         Full details of the e-petition
·         How long your petition will run

When you create an e-petition we have to check that the content of your petition is suitable before it is made available for signature. If we feel we cannot publish your petition for some reason, we will contact you to explain the reasons why. (for example on some occasions, we may need to seek further advice on the content of your petition).

More information about what petitions can and cannot be accepted please refer to our webpage here (opens in a new window)

Once your details and the petition have been confirmed, we will put it on the website and you will be provided with the website address which you can use to publicise your petition. We will email you to confirm when this is done.We will aim to confirm the above within a few working days.

Supporting an e-petition
To support an existing e-petition each person signing it should provide their name, signature and address. More information about the issue provided by the lead petitioner will be attached to the e-petition.
