NHS Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley (DGS) Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) plans and buys healthcare services in the area.

We’re thinking about making changes to our urgent care services and want to hear your views.

What is urgent care?

Urgent care services treat injuries or illnesses which need immediate care, but are not serious enough for an A&E visit.

In this area urgent care services include the Minor Injuries Unit at Gravesham Community Hospital, and the walk-in GP services which are currently based at the Walk-in Centre in Vale Road, Northfleet.

Why we are thinking of changing what we have:

Over the past couple of years, we’ve been talking to local people about how we can improve urgent care services in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley areas.

Many people told us they find urgent care services confusing and are sometimes unsure about where to go.

We also heard that people would prefer locating the Minor Injuries Unit and Walk-in Centre together in one place.

What we are thinking of changing:

We have been considering setting up an Urgent Treatment Centre which would bring the services currently provided at the Minor Injuries Unit and Walk-in Centre together under one roof.

We are unsure where we would locate this Urgent Treatment Centre but we do know it would need to be housed in a building which currently provides NHS services and which has space to accommodate the staff, patients and equipment it would require.

The possible sites we are currently considering include Gravesham Community Hospital and Darent Valley Hospital.

If we decide to locate the Urgent Treatment Centre at Gravesham Community Hospital, we will need to relocate the GP walk-in services currently provided at the Walk-in Centre in Vale Road, Northfleet.

The services currently provided at the Minor Injuries Unit which is already at Gravesham Community Hospital will be provided at the Urgent Treatment Centre on the same site.

If we decide to locate the Urgent Treatment Centre at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, we will need to relocate the GP walk-in services currently provided at the Walk-in Centre in Vale Road, Northfleet and the services provided at the Minor Injuries Unit which is at Gravesham Community Hospital.

No changes are currently proposed to the GP surgeries which are also located at the current Walk-in Centre site.
