IOP Scotland CLPL: Using AI in Physics Education
16 January 2024, 4.30pm-5.30pm

Please note change of date: this is now happening on 16 January, not 17 January as originally planned.

Suitable for teachers of physics, including physics specialists, other science specialists teaching physics, and student teachers.

This CLPL session will focus on two pivotal aspects of AI in education: its potential future role in classroom differentiation and the challenges it could present in assessment integrity. The session will explore how AI facilitates scalable personalization in learning, enabling teachers to cater to varied student needs without overly adding to their workload. This AI-driven approach promises a more inclusive and effective educational environment, adapting to diverse learning styles while managing class sizes efficiently.

There is however growing concerns regarding AI's impact on assessments. As students gain access to advanced AI tools capable of assisting with essay writing and homework, there's an increasing challenge in ensuring authentic student engagement and work. The session will delve into the limitations of current AI detectors in identifying AI-generated content, posing a significant challenge for educators. The aim is to provide a balanced view, acknowledging the benefits of AI in education while addressing these emerging concerns critically.

A declaration : Except for this sentence this synopsis was completely written by AI (and from a human editor: this highlights the opportunities as well as the challenges.)
